Community Memo – OSSTF withdrawal of services

***UPDATE*** Moose Factory Ministik School is CLOSED to students on Wednesday December 4, 2019. Classes resume as usual on Thursday December 5, 2019.

NOTICE TO COMMUNITY RESIDENTS

MINISTIK SCHOOL TO CLOSE IF OSSTF WITHDRAWAL OF SERVICES OCCURS

This memo is to provide the community with notice that the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) has announced that, should a tentative agreement not be reached, its members (secondary teachers and educational support workers) will conduct a one-day walkout (full withdrawal of services) on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.  As a result, Ministik school will be closed to students on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.  Given this is a one-day full withdrawal of services, Ministik school will re-open on Thursday, December 5, 2019.  While we understand this is a challenging time, parents will be required to make alternate arrangements for their children.

Educational support workers at Ministik include our ECEs, EAs, Secretarial Staff and Maintenance and Custodial staff.  These staff members provide significant support and supervision to our students and their absence will create significant safety concerns in that the Board will not be in the position to provide the required supervision to students.

We remain hopeful that a settlement can be reached by end of day Tuesday, December 3, 2019.  If an agreement is reached, Ministik will open as usual on Wednesday.

Please feel free to contact the Board Office should you have any concerns/questions.

Meegwetch/Thank you.
